8 Flexible Phone Jobs

Updated on: by Amy Kennedy

Flexible Phone JobsWorking from home for a virtual call center has its many advantages. Generally speaking, work from home phone jobs do not require previous experience. Additionally, you can often earn a steady and reliable income by taking sales and/or customer service calls from home. There is a constant need for more virtual workers to handle phone jobs.

However, only a fraction of work at home job seekers are able to take phone jobs due to strict equipment requirements and the need to have a quiet environment.

Additionally, many of these home based call centers require you to work a set schedule which can eliminate anyone who needs flexibility. Fortunately, if you have a dedicated office space without distractions for even a couple of hours a day – you could still possibly make a phone job work with these flexible companies.

LiveOps

I worked for LiveOps as a home based phone rep for two years. I managed to work a phone job even though I had a toddler who loved to babble. Thanks to the flexibility of LiveOps scheduling- I was able to grab work hours at times when I knew my husband would be home to care for our daughter. Additionally, I could grab a few impromptu minutes when I found down time (again, with my husband home to care for our daughter). LiveOps not only allows you to choose the hours you want to work- but they also allow you to login without being “committed” on the schedule. Although you would only get overflow calls  when working uncommitted – it was a great opportunity to build up my paycheck.

Another great feature to the scheduling system at LiveOps was the ability to drop committed times. If something came up and I couldn’t work the times I had scheduled- I could release those commits. However, the only way to not be penalized for doing so was to hope that someone else would take the time I let go of. Generally that was not a problem, there were not usually enough schedule hours available for everyone who wanted them.

West

My experience with West was very limited. Basically I went through the training process for one of their lines but the job didn’t work out. It’s a complicated story that really holds no relevance so I won’t indulge. However, West was, and still is,  a premier option for anyone looking for a steady work from home job that offers flexibility. The scheduling was a lot like LiveOps in that you could create your own schedule. Additionally you could give up hours you previously scheduled or put them up for trade. This allows you to work around your life instead of living around your work. It gives those of us in unique situations the ability to bring in an income without interfering with our circumstances.

West is actually very unique from any other call center that offers flexibility. It is actually the only work at home call center I know of that hires on an employment basis (versus independent contractor) while still giving you complete control over your schedule.

ACD Direct

ACD Direct is another virtual call center that offers flexible scheduling. I went through the training process with ACD Direct a few years back . In that time I managed to get a feel for the scheduling process. Again, with ACD Direct, you create your own schedule. The available schedule would be released on a pre-determined date. When you gain access to the schedule you can commit yourself to the hours that match up with your availability. You are able to give up committed time – if someone else will take the blocks. Additionally, you can work even when not scheduled at ACD Direct.

When reading the experiences of other ACD Direct contractors at GlassDoor – you can quickly see that they are known for their flexible scheduling system.

Expert Planet

Expert Planet does offer flexible scheduling, but it does require you to have experience as a top performing call center rep. Expert Planet prides themselves on hiring the elite. If you feel you can meet up to the sales expectations of Expert Planet- then you will love the flexible scheduling they offer in return.

I worked for Expert Planet briefly when they were first getting things started, I am sure a lot has changed but what I can tell from researching Expert Planet- they still offer you the ability to create your own schedule. Like all the other companies listed in this article, they have availability to receive call during all hours of the day or night. I believe Expert Planet also offers the ability to sign in and work even when not scheduled.

This is just a small list of flexible work at home phone jobs of which there are more out there. I worked for West for about 4 years. It was the perfect job for me since our son was homeschool. The flexibility also was great for my chronic pain.
