Yes you read that right! Today I am breaking from the usual Inbox Thursday Post and giving a huge shout out to the un-recognized!
There are posts after posts, sites after sites, dedicated to being a support for work at home MOMS. But what about the dads? What about the people who are working from home for ANY other reason than to raise kids?
Today is YOUR day! Today is the day to unite and be proud to be working at home! Work at Home Adventures, while it will have its occasional mom and kid themes, is also a place for those NON-MOMs out there!
If you are a Work at Home NON-Mom please introduce yourself!

Hey there,
I’m a retired (because of disability – COPD) 37 yro who finds it very difficult to be at home and not attempting to be productive. I currently have a web job where I validate sponsor links on web clips, and am looking into monetizing a local music review blog.
I read this wonderful site regularly and am constantly trying to improve my WAH style.
Thank-you,
~Steve
So glad to know you are reading Steve!
HI There,
I’ve been working from home since 2007. Not married not a mom, in my mid 30′s. I started working from home because I needed an income after I had a on the job injury. I was hurt but not hurt enough to be considered disabled. I still need to live right? Could not find a job after that so I joined the WAH Nation, lol. Happy to be apart of it, glad I do it, glad to meet many others who do as well.
My injury which was a back one; was able to heal without an operation because I was able to care for myself AT HOME! I could get on the floor, stretch out, workout, stop & stand when I needed to. All without a punching a clock so to speak. I’m so blessed and grateful to work from home, I can’t see myself going back to a brick and mortar anytime soon.
Isn’t it amazing what our bodies can do all on our own if we just care for them!
I am so glad you are doing better and it seems happy to be Work-at-Homer!
It’s great to hear from non moms.
I agree Rona!
I’m a Work at Home Non-Mom (feels like a support group here lol). I started working from home simply because I was no longer digging the corporate world. As time has went on it has had added benefits such as working well with my husband’s unconventional work schedule. It works out great for our lifestyle.
Yes! I get that, although I started this to stay home with my kids, I am in it for the long-haul so to speak. Since my husband’s schedule is like yours, I love the flexibility to work when he is gone and break and enjoy life when he is home!
I feel like I just follow Angie around the internets. LOL. Seriously, I have been working from home off and on for about 7-8 years now. It started as a way to supplement my income when I was between clients or tax seasons. It became a necessity about 4 years ago and now it is just a way of life. I will never go back to corporate America. Working from home allows me to take care of my ill pet and his sister, as well as the other random animals we have. It allows me to do what I want, when I want, for the most part. My fiances schedule is crazy so I am able to work around that. We also have his daughter on the weekends, again, I can work with her here sometimes, and sometimes not. I love the freedom and the flexibility. What I dont love is people still think I dont have a real job, even after graduating from college! I will be working on my Masters this fall and without a work from home job I would not be able to make it work.
Cheers to all the other non-moms!
Thanks for the shout-out to Non-Moms!! I appreciate it! I’m a young work-at-home wife with a coffee company and I love networking with others! It’s so fun meeting and getting to know other entrepreneurs like myself!
Nice to meet you Carrie!!
Hello!!
I attempted working at home for a year and couldn’t make it work, so I resigned myself to go to a brick and mortar job at a major pharmaceutical company. Within 6 months, they asked me to work remotely due to space limitations. I have a feeling we’re going to see more and more of this as companies begin to see the benefits of having people work at home instead of maintaining office buildings.
Wow, what a turn for the better! Amazing how life has its twists and turns.
Hey there
I’m not a mommy and proud to say it because I am young! Lol – I’m breaking the statistics
I’ve been on the search for work at home opportunities since last year when I sustained a back injury at work. I fell into a MLM and believed there was something out there. I got fired from a position and started looking again. I came across this site and many others and now I am proud to say I am actually working from home!
So glad to meet everyone like me
*Believed there was nothing out there.
I just love how far you have come in no time! You are a true work at home success!
As those of you who read my guest post last Saturday know, I’m also a work at home non-mom. I started working at home almost 8 years ago. At that time I was getting so few hours at the job I had outside the home, that what I was spending on transportation to get to/from work almost ate up what little I was making! I have been working from home since and I love it!!
A lot of people have found that not only are they able to find a job from home while they cannot seem to find one outside..they are sometimes paid MORE and they save so much money!
Working from home is a revolution!
Yes, very true Miranda… I’ve actually made more working from home than I did any job I had working outside the home!
3 years ago i started at Live Ops and I’ve never looked back. I have a mental health disability and I’ve found the flexibility i have with working from home works much better for me than in the corporate world.
I heard LiveOps now lets you take up to a whole day off without penalty if you have logged at least 1000 hours! That is so great for when you just have one of those days. I am glad you have found your match with LiveOps! They do have one of the best flexible schedules I know of!
I started with Avon (does that count?) and worked my way over to Live Ops. This was SO long ago. I have been back there a handful of times and have always had a pleasant experience. I worked with West and Alpine a few times too. Now I just write, because its what I have always loved so its a bonus that I get paid to do it now.
Miranda I love your site and I love the positive feedback you give everyone as you know I work from the land of liveops just went ftime and the only thing that worries me at times is will it be enough and a long comes a friend that says well put another egg with it and make it work man shes one smart cookie. I love being a stay at home nonconventional mom I have stepkids and dogs the dogs think they are human so are they kids?
Yes! Linda! Your dogs are considered kids too! They are their own breed but definitely kids!
I am so glad we met Linda!
I work outside the home, and am starting to pursue work-at-home opportunities as well. We live in a small town, and opportunites for second jobs are slim. we have A LOT of debt. Six figures of debt. Mostly student debt, but some credit card and other consumer debt as well. It doesn’t suffocate me the way it used too- a lot of this debt was formed in the time that my husband was in the Army and deployed (twice). Ever since I realized that debt was the worst thing we had to show for 27 months in a war zone, well, I’ve had a different perspective. But, I still want to eliminate it! So WAH side streams are our answer for now. Thanks for doing this. I do feel kind of out-of-place in a lot of forums. (no kids).
Good luck on your work from home adventures Sara! Persistence and dedication will you right back out of that debt. Thank you for your family’s sacrifices and serving our country!
I also noticed that many of you suffered an injury. I also found my way to work at home after suffering a car accident and a work related injury that left me with various discs damage and severe chronic pain made it impossible for me to work a outside job in 2004.
This is another reason why I WAH and will never return back. I have disk disease which effects my lower back. It makes it extremely difficult to sit or stand for long periods of time. I have to take frequent breaks and stretch. Over the years it has gotten worse, and I have gained weight because it hurts to exercise, which does not help the situation. Not it has moved to my hip and my sciatica is worse than it has ever been. I also suffer from mental health problems and frequent migraines. If I had to go to an office, I would be calling in all the time. Been there, done that.
I know you have a lot of battles Rona. You are a tough gal and such an inspiration through your own blog!
I am disAbled and I started my wickless candle business, to help my husband with the bills. I don’t drive and in the past public transportation has been unreliable. Now that I work at home, my commute consists of getting out of bed and rolling (wheelchair)5 feet to my desk. My hours are flexible and I take breaks when I need to. I love it.
I am so glad Scentsy is working out for you! It is nice to meet you Emi!
I came down with (got?) arthritis in 1995 and have been on disability ever since. I’ve had a few part time jobs since then (6/hrs week) and when I wasn’t working I’d supplement SSD with surveys and cash offer sites. Since I found WAHA I’m now employed at two different places and have deadlines and projects. There’s a sense of fulfillment from being able to tell people ‘I work for xx and yy rather than just saying ‘I do surveys online’.
I am glad you have found something Theresa. It is rewarding!
Hello all!
I am Brandi from Idaho. I do have a fur baby. Duramax, a pomeranian, he is the love of my life
I started blogging back in 2008. I have always wanted to stay home and provide a living for myself.
I recently found a WAH call center job, not so much for me… So I am back on the market of trying to find a new WAH job. trying to keep my head up, as I know it takes a while to find a good assortment of eggs..:)
I love Miranda’s blog and love all the advice she provides! First place I check into everyday
Thank you so much Brandi!
I really hope you find a good match soon. It does take persistence. I am finding a common characteristic of successful work at homers is being stubborn headed. We will fight for what it is we are searching for until it happens…plain and simple! Good luck!
I work parttime in a very small factory, also work at home selling Watkins products and selling on ebay. (ppbecky)
I have 3 kinds of arthritis and it is great to be able to spend time at home and make money. Am just getting a good start on both but it is going very well and I am very happy!
I am a work-at-home non-mom too. I was tired of commuting two hours one-way to work every day! I worked in the Northern VA/DC area–which was and still is–rated in the Top 10 for having the nation’s worst traffic congestion. After over a decade of “extreme” commuting, I decided to give it up. The “scenic route” had officially lost its scenery–at least it had for me! LOL Sadly, there weren’t many jobs in my immediate area.
So in 2006 I began experimenting with different online and off-line opportunities. I discovered the online WAH and WAHM communities as well as wonderful blogs like this one. The rest is history. I now have my own virtual assistant practice and have been COMPLETELY self-employed for almost three years.
Whenever I have a bad day as a WAHer (is that our formal title?), I turn on the television and watch the traffic report! Just thinking about that horrible commute AND the cost of gas, puts it all in perspective for me.
It is the same in my area too. When I was looking for a B&M Job I was having a hard time finding anything that paid well. I realize now that I could not leave my home job and make the same in the ‘real world’. Seems to me there are more opportunities and better pay for many of us online.
Hey,
I’m a non-mom… I’m a preschool teacher who loves her job, but lives pretty much paycheck to paycheck. (Preschool teachers aren’t paid all that well), so I am here looking for ways to make extra money when I get home from work for an hour or so (in addition to the hours of one on one tutoring I do to help out as well). This site helped me find leapforce, which so far is working for me — although I’d love to add some more eggs to my basket (heh, look at me, using the lingo!). I’m just hoping to find a way to keep the job I love and add a little financial wiggle room to my life.
Jenny have you looked into any of the online tutoring jobs? There are many and it is a great way for teachers like yourself to supplement your income.
Welcome to WAHadventures!!
Heh, thanks! But I already tutor 4 hours a week, and could quite easily get more tutoring gigs, but well, the four hours (in addition to my full time teaching job) is enough of that sort of thing for me. I really don’t think I would have the energy to tutor yet more people when I get home. I have tried to find a job where I can edit academic papers (nothing too high level, I’m probably not qualified for that) or something like marking tests, because that might fit into my wheelhouse, but I’m Canadian and that sort of limits my possibilities. Honestly, I’m looking for something I can do for about an hour a night that doesn’t require an enormous amount of energy — things like Leapforce are on paper ideal, although once again, my Canadianness seems to limit the amount of work I get from them, so I am trying to find more eggs. I was super excited about getting into Titling, and actually applied, tested and was hired… but found out after all of that that I can’t work form them as a titler because I’m Canadian. Argh!
I have been working at home for 5 years now. I started when I was a single divorced gal in my 20′s. I am now married and have 2 stepsons but they are only here on the weekends. I work from home because I love making my own hours, being here to also take care of the home. I am also starting back to college soon and being able to make my own schedule is great.
There is nothing like the flexibility of working for yourself! Thanks for coming and commenting!
Hi all! Currently working for two companies from home as a Search Engine evaluator. Love the work
